Vaccines and medicine is pretty incredible. Life expectancy 200 years ago was almost half of what it is now. Vaccines, antibiotics (penicillin) and other medical discoveries I would think are pretty high on that list.
Otherwise industrial revolution, electricity, people figuring out from lenses and mirrors that we are one of eight planets that orbits a star, that we are one solar system of countless in a galaxy, and one galaxy of countless in the universe...

Vaccines are pretty fucking high up there. Represents humanity's ability to master their environment rather than being at the mercy of the environment.
Granted, every time we figure out how to "win" against mother nature, she figures out how to fuck us over harder the next time. "Eradicated polio? Here, have some AIDS. Got that under control? I created covid just for you!!"
Oh and indoor plumbing, esp. in winter.
Maybe after looking at all these answers will we realize how trivial our work actually is lol
Idk. My firm did some great stuff for some companies in the financial and life sciences industries when COVID hit. I think think that was worthwhile. But the work I do? 💯 not critical to humanity.

Fertilizers! Man made fertilizers have helped avert famine. The population growth of the 20th century wouldn't have been possible without them.
Not really, but ok.
