It’s YOUR wedding!!! My sister had a destination wedding in Punta Cana, and to also have something for friends/family back in the states, she did a second reception in a city that was a few hours at most away from everyone 😊 wore her wedding dress, groom wore his tux, bridal party dressed back up, toasts, father/daughter dance, the whole shabang! Gives you a chance to make the best of both worlds!! Ceremony for the older family members, party for the friends!
I think it was a few weeks after their honeymoon!!
It’s not wrong to have a destination if neither of you are from a place. People do it all of the time! Doing it to allow older family members to attend is an even better reason.
Not wrong at all! It’s very special to have older family members.
I can speak from experience that these two questions have a big impact on friends’ ability to join:
> Will your wedding be easy to travel to / close to an airport?
> Are other friends in your group also getting married the same year?
To give you an example…
I’m invited to two international weddings next year, for friends in my circle but not the closest. I’m also getting married and so are our two best friends. So our friend group is really having a full wedding year.
Wedding 1 is in Cartagena, 10m from the airport and a cheap/fast flight. We’re attending.
Wedding 2 is in Ireland, a four hour drive away from any airport. Because of all the other events we have, we won’t be able to go to that one.
No go for it. We did destination wedding on a European island and nobody is from there. Was fun and people looked fwd to the trip. You need to be understanding if folks can’t make it though

Destination wedding just means a place that people might go for a vacation even if they weren't attending your wedding. Some would say it also includes anyplace not where you currently live. If you are lucky enough to have relatives there, it's a bonus and more if a reason to choose that location. Not a negative.
