Have been in Vancouver (downtown) for 3 years now originally from the prairies:
- great restaurants but always expect a line up all the time
- not much of a nightlife except lounge hopping
- diverse city with many cultures
- great options if you love the outdoors for running, beach volleyball, walking, biking (tons of bike lanes), hiking which are all free (then paid activities are water slots (SUP/kayak/canoe), skiing, snowboarding)
- ocean and mountain view and beaches where many spend their spring and summers (picnics, drinks etc since not many have backyard space)
- 1 bedroom = $1800-2600, a room in a shared unit can go for about $1000-1500
- it’s hard to purchase a property here unless you have a heavy down payment
- lonely city where I hear from many that it’s hard to meet people or make friends (unless you meet others from groups such as Facebook or coworkers etc)
- a good place to live short term but it’s difficult to settle here if 1) you’re looking to buy eventually or 2) you’re looking to start a family down the road
Depends on the type of lifestyle you’re looking for. It’s worth it for me but I also prefer cities in general. I like being able to bike everywhere, and frequent restaurants, bars, concerts, theatre, comedy shows, etc.
Only worth if the high ticket items such as house and car are sorted, otherwise both cities are vibrant. Inflation has affected prices of other items everywhere in Canada so you get to decide
Yes 100% worth it. I moved to Toronto from my home country. I have a smaller house but I am loving the vibe. Big houses are useless imho. Having a good life which toronto provides is what I want
