In Soviet Russia, the partner track pursues you.

At an above market firm, and in a specialized practice.

I have been a non equity partner at three firms. I am now a counsel and it is far less stressful. My book is growing better than ever and I am usually treated with respect. Don't get me wrong, I like money a lot, but not having raging acid reflux is better for me at least. I would only go NEP or EP if there was no other choice.

Some pursue it. For others it is just that you’re the last left standing (and I’m not sure that’s the best thing).

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

If you do billable work on a given PTO/vacation day, do you still count that day as vacation? Or do you get that vacation day "back"? Or do you only get the part that you billed "back"? (Or some other option.)

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

What is comp like in Minneapolis firms? Do some pay significantly better than others, or are they all the same? Spouse’s family in MN so considering a move, but I make DPW scale currently (am a litigation associate) and the salary estimate I got from a firm in MN would be 40% less than what I currently make! Cost of living and hours requirement slightly lower in MN, but nowhere near 40%! Are there any options that would not result in a drastic pay cut?

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through.
