McKinsey & Company McKinsey & Company Hi there! I’m looking at applying to McKinsey, and am wondering what is the correct level to apply for. I’m a second year analyst (recently promoted to consultant but title isn’t effective until end of the month), and I’ve been with my firm for 1.5 years. Is business analyst the correct level for me, or should I be looking at associate roles? Reading the description for associate, I feel like it might be the Deloitte equivalent of SC lol
I am a graduating student who just got offered 65k for a solution analyst role at Deloitte USDC (Data Engineering Focus). From reading previous posts it seems to be a lot of negative thoughts surrounding the USDC, but straight out of college is this a good opportunity?
I'm looking to gain as much experience as possible out of college in an IT role and wondering what exit opportunities may be in place a year or two down the road if there is little/slow progression.
Any Advice?

We don’t usually hire laterals who don’t have some kind of expertise - we train enough generalists in house. External principals typically tied to either a function or industry practice area and come with deeper expertise than homegrown counterparts
It depends. To be elected partner you have to have a platform that can be industry, function, or a blend of both. Most P1s likely have practice areas they are affiliated with, but not everyone is 100% specialized at that point
Agree with the above and would add industry experience is not hard to come by. More likely to find functional topics where we need a boost
Thank you all! Appreciate the insights.
