Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.
https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491
My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.
Has anyone bought an X-Chair office chair?

It's about right for new manager without MBA. Your buying power in Houston will be a world a difference compared to the 5k you're losing in NYC. Not a fan of Houston personally. Ideally you land in Dallas or Austin
I like it. I’m a refugee from Cali and love Houston
You'll save at least 25k / yr moving to Houston CoL wise . (Lived in both cities in college internships). Assuming you're in tech at Cap, you're getting a better name. Don't feel like the times are impacting consulting too much, been getting more hits on LinkedIn from consulting firms than ever. Maybe trying to arbitrage a cheaper labor market though. Can you negotiate the salary at all?
9YOE 135k offer? That’s low
When did you received official offer and when was your h1 process initiated? My offer was put on hold due to covid. Recruiter said they will follow up after few months
At least 30% lower cost if living, paid $35k more, and ~10% less on taxes.... you're coming out waaayyyyy ahead my friend.
9YOE at Capgemini or total? Are you currently staffed? Will you be staffed at EY? What’s the pipeline situation at both firms after? Did they recruit you or did you apply and initiate the contact?
I wouldn’t at this time - specially for lower pay
Oh for sure, those of us in Houston really wish we were in NYC these days.
Well $135K in Houston is more than $140 in NY, but 9 yoe- ask for more
Gotta adjust for cost of living and no state tax. Not a bad offer.
Never ever consider taking a pay-cut, irrespective of the location in the same country. If they like you enough they will always bump your salary. The least they should be doing is matching status quo.
You decrease your value in the market if u take a pay cut.
To clarify, my salary in Capgemini just got changed to 140k - it used to be 120k until last year. So, it was pay bump but minor.
How much of the 9YOE is in consulting and North America?
Mid level manager in Texas is at least 143k for PwC tech consulting
This isn't true.
If they truly value you, they’d at least match the offer. Less about the 5k, more about how much value they see in you
And you don’t seem to understand the feeling of being valued.
I’m at EY in Houston. This is a decent offer for S3. There are stronger salaries available depending on the specific practice. Does Cap offer much variable comp? EY doesn’t. Tech is becoming more and more our focus, so you’re aligned to our key growth area generally but specific practice will matter. Separately, you should confirm that your offer is still available and that your start date hasn’t been effective. We’ve frozen most hiring but we are honoring commitments. Personally, I love Houston- it’s home for me. I also love NYC and it’s a true city in the purest sense, unlike Houston which has a bit of everything within its wonky boundaries. Just very different cities.
To add further details - offer is at Senior 3 position, not in Manager position.
Do you expect to be let go on July 1st ?
No. Not expecting to be laid off.
