Overcoming Fear of Public Speaking
Call to Action: It’s instinctual to want to avoid being watched and it happens to all of us. Practice these tips to calm our instincts down and become a more confident public speaker.
Be Generous: Show kindness and generosity in our presentation. It’s important to frame our thinking around how giving a great speech will help others to reduce the pressure we often place on ourselves. Instead of worrying about making a mistake, focus on the value your adding to the audience.
Think About Your Audience: Consider what makes your audience unique. Ask yourself why they are listening and what you will offer them. Think about your audience needs and craft your message around them.
Make Eye Contact: Practice making eye contact with different people around the audience. It may feel uncomfortable at first but over time it will make you feel like you’re having a one on one conversation with someone. Research also shows that making eye contact with other people decreases your anxiety.
