I’ve been a temp for almost a year. The agency makes a lot off of me. I need to ask them for a raise but I have no idea how to do this…does anyone have experience with this?

My recommendation would be to make a list of all your tasks and items that you do for the company that contributes to their growth. Additionally it would be a good idea to do some research on what the fair market value is for a role such as yours and how it compares to what they are paying you (assuming you might be getting underpaid). It’s not the easiest conversation but should be done. If they say no, take it as a sign to start looking for a job where they will pay you what you’re worth.

The EA/Admin profession used to be a gateway for many people to get their foot in the door and grow into different career paths. For most organizations this is no longer the case. Do you see EA’s/Admins growing into different roles within your orgs? If so, what paths are taken? What steps are taken to get there? What I’d like to learn is whether our profession still has the capability to be a doorway or if others are seeing the same things I am; limited opportunities for development.

Bain is hiring for EA and MA roles in The US. If you’re serious about applying please reach out I’m happy to refer qualified candidates.

manager assistants are 100 percent remote while executive assistant roles are expected to be mapped to a local office. MAs support six senior managers or associate partners while EAs support 3 partners. MAs should have 1-3 years experience to apply and EAs should have 3-5 or more.

I started a new job as an “office manager” at the end of January. The duties seem to align more with those of an EA, and I’m ok with that. Except my boss is a control freak. He scolds me over every little thing, how I load the dishwasher, maybe I didn’t push my chair in. Last week he told me I needed to work on my appearance. I was shocked. I bought all new clothes from Ann Taylor that are perfectly acceptable for business casual. He hates me. Move on ASAP or try to stick it out ?
