Network, very rarely do people find success lateraling through simple resume drops. Reach out directly to the HR rep, have them connect you with the banker running the process, get on the phone with them and impress them
Just wondering what your current role is at JPM, could be impacting getting IB interviews if you’re something more BO right now
Third party headhunters/recruiters can help - the good ones will have a direct line into hiring managers and can bypass the careers page black holes
I reached out to a few headhunter firms. Have been keeping in touch. They are only offering me roles at only non-bulge bracket firms which is strange.
Assuming you’re not in IB/FO right now? That’s definitely an uphill battle - would use alumni network to get a look
Look at the job you applied to. Let’s assume it’s a Vol analyst trading position at GS.
Go to LinkedIn and type “volatility trader Goldman New York”
Find the ppl who come up, VPs / Directors are the recruiting ppl so they’re the best to reach out to. Analysts can be good but they’re busy and too junior.
Typically banks have the email convention of firstname.lastname@companyname.com
So for example - joe Schumck can be joe.schumck@gs.com (assuming he’s the only joe schumck)
Send your emails - introduce who you are and have a short background of yourself. Say you applied to the job and you’re passionate about it. Attach your resume, respect their time and understand they’re busy and ask for a referral if it’s not a problem. Ask if they want to chat in the near future on the phone. To make their lives easier also have the job ID in your email.
Send it and hope for the best, the hit rate is low but if it hits they can really help. Most of them they won’t respond, sometimes they’ll just forward your cv to hr without telling you. But the ones who are willing to talk to you are more likely to help
Good luck
