If you are getting the interview it seems as if your resume is working. You may need to brush up on your interview skills.
If you have LinkedIn Premium take one of their interview classes, I can’t remember the name of the one I took but I did have my abbreviated notes. Maybe these will help you.
Salary Negotiations
- Thank them for the job
- Talk about value you bring
- State your desired salary range and then stay silent
Body Language
- Be at ease with your self, think of yourself as consultant instead job candidate
- Mimic the interviewer body language
- Be present, listen intently
Research company
- Read company website throughly not just about us section
- Google search on latest news
- Check out company social media account
Tell Me about yourself
- Go with “SHE” formula: Succinct | Honest | Engaging
- Try using job description to prepare (use skills they need, then showcase your strengths)
- Tie back to the job
What’s Your Greatest Strength?
- Be relevant and specific experience
- Use soft and hard skills required for that job to answer
What is your greatest weakness?
- Be humble and self aware
- Pick a weakness that don’t disqualify you from the job
- Have a statement of how you overcome that weakness
Why should we hire you?
- Pick 3 qualification on why you qualify
- Paint picture share a story on why you are a good fit
- Why are you a cultural fit (team member)
Why do you want to work here?
- Make it about the company not you
- Share what you want after you make about them (show how it works for them though)
What would your co-workers say about you?
- Frame answer in context of job description
- Review any reviews you have
- Share examples that tie to the job description
Why do you want to leave your current role?
- Stay positive (don’t bash current job)
- Talk about what you want out of your next role (not how you want to leave current)
- Relate it back to the job you are interviewing for.
What do you do after work
- Share something true
- Keep is succinct
- Steer clear of inappropriate
Where do you see yourself in 5 years
- Break into 2 - 3 year chunks
- Focus on high level intentions for the job
- Stay away from job titles
Describe your leadership style
- Know and own leadership style
- How to give an example of that leadership style. (What you did and the results)
- Show where you adapted
Do you have any questions for me?
Questions to show that you are paying attention (from interview)
Questions about their brand
Questions that get them talking about their career, people like to brag
Past experience question
- Tell story in SAR: situation, action, result
A time you made a mistake
Tell this in the form of story but make sure to conclude with what you learned from the mistake and how you will do better
Thank you note
- Send quickly
- Be genuine and specific (follow up on something said)
- Be gracious (I appreciated that you ….)
- Express interest in next step.
