You’re going to have to be more specific about what jobs you’re applying for. And if you’re applying to non creative jobs then your experience as a creative ad agency copywriter doesn’t mean much. Even for other writer type jobs, like technical writing, you’re likely going to have to aim for jr to mid level roles
Overall there is a ton of competition for jobs these days because of all the layoffs. Trying to shift careers is going to be extra hard bc there are likely tons of candidates with the required experience applying for the same jobs you are.
So don’t blame yourself but maybe try to pick up skills / courses/ qualifications of whatever job you’re aiming for
@cw As far as I know, those roles do not overlap with CW skills and experience, unless you’re managing people and or projects right now. I did a bit of people management as a Sr CW but nothing serious until ACD and still don’t think a recruiter would consider me for a PM role
Even if you have some applicable skills, there are lots of PMs etc with the required experience applying to the same jobs you are these days. Recruiters/companies are also risk averse rn so I suspect they’re just going with candidates with past titles and exp that closest match the jd
I’d try to find someone in your network that has those titles, like a PM you’ve worked with. See if they’re willing to mentor you and share any tips or classes you can take.
The best/ easiest way I’ve seen people switch is within their own agency. Seen PMs, Accounts and Strategy go creative and the other way around. So if you’re still at an agency reach out to the Sr/Director PM and see if they can help
This is just a bad time for a career pivot, but I think if you can get someone to mentor / teach/ champion you it would help
I know people apply to thousands of jobs these days, I don’t think you have to be that extreme but 5 is a really low number of applications
Following as I am legitimately in the exact same boat, down to years of experience
