I'm looking for a role in McK serving O&G, industrial, capital projects clients. Open to generalist roles as well. Can review for vetting.
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

If you're getting promoted in an area you don't want to be in anymore, is it really a promotion?
Keep taking to the recruiter. Keep it on the DL. Don't feel guilty.
If you get to salary discussion in the new job, just ask for what you want, even if it feels aggressive. If you've already told them, then you can still try to renegotiate further down the line. But really, if the new role is the direction you want to go in, that is likely more important than a few extra grand.
Great advice. It's a marathon not a sprint - got it!
Two options:
1) you tell the new position you’re up for s promotion. They take this into consideration when crafting your title / salary in your offer.
2) you get said offer and tell your current job, and use it to ensure you do get that promotion / raise.
However please consider that being added to a list and getting the promotion are two very different things. If you’re looking to switch jobs, focus on the direction that gets you to the kind of work you want to do. Focus on the long term career, not the short term gains.
Come up with great insights you can arm a strategy lead with and also tell them you want to move into strategy. When they see your skill and your helpful, they’ll advocate for you with the agency strategy lead or share your name with friends/recruiters that are looking for people. Watch John Steel how to be a good planner on YouTube. The search terms are something like that. Good luck! You’ll land it 🙌🏻

No promotion is guaranteed until you actually have it.
... And said a role opened up that might be a good fit for me. Only problem is I just asked my manager for a promotion and was told my name had been added to the list for the June raise/promotion money pool. Any recommendations on how to navigate a situation like this? I can't negotiate for more money on an internal transfer, can I? Especially since I haven't been promoted or given a raise yet. Part of me really wants to transition to Strategy, but I also trust my current manager and SVP and know more money is in my future if I stay with my current team.
