I’ve been with this company since spring 2024. I was hired by Attorney B who quit before I was onboarded. Attorney A is in jail for 30 years for child abuse and endangerment ( yes you can look that up) My paralegal coworker 1 quit in 2 months. Over the year I’ve been there I’ve reported to 4 different people ( one Director level and one VP level ) now Attorney B. 7 Paralegals later… I’m still here. Only 1 coworker who is supposed to take the bar in February. Do I fake my attitude until I leave?

Wow wow wow! At least it's not a boring job I guess? All you can do is fake it until you are able to jump ship. It's better than quitting with no backup plan in this economy.

I would be concerned about that Firm’s reputation when you use it as a reference for a future employer. If it were me, I would get out of there as quickly as possible. It sounds like a crazy environment. Kudos to you for sticking it out, but probably best to polish up that resume.

like

Not using them as a reference. I’ve made two very good contacts in adjacent departments whom I have used as references. All great advice!

That is wild! I guess you do fake it until you get out of there. Are you looking now? All that in little over a year is a crazy ride and I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with it.

like

Of course I’m looking !

You mean by "fake," put on a brave front until you can get away from this uber toxic and rather tawdry environment. I get it and disagree with the last post partially, no don't fake anything, be genuine.....BUT under the circumstances you kinda have to have a poker face just to get past this place. So sorry that good employees like you have to put up with this you-know-what. I think you're doing the right thing until you can find your exit and give them the walking papers. Best of luck to you, you sure are brave and you are an asset to the profession.

like

Wow. Sounds like a real mess. But why would you "fake" anything. I do not understand that at all. Be honest and respectful. No never fake anything. A good paralegal is so much better and it's your character and attitude that will always be remembered. If they realize that you were being fake it may burn bridges that you may never want burned or may need in the future.

I’ve been a paralegal for about 30 years in private law firmS. As I get older, I feel like it’s time for a semi-career change. Either an office manager position or perhaps a corporate position where I can travel a little since my kids are grown and I’m an empty-nester. Has anyone made this type of transition? Advise welcome. Additional Posts in Paralegals

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.
