Excel: Pivots, Vlookups, cleaning data, Sumifs, other complex formulas. Also in general getting good with viz and shortcuts - comes with practice
SQL: Queries, Conditionals, Joins, and pretty much the grasp of the concept of how relational database works. What a primary key and foreign key is in a table. Etc. SQLBolt and W3Schools are good free online ways to learn
Outside of this is deeper programming, such as Python, SAS, and R for stats related topics. Things that may not be especially required if you’re going into a general analytics role less focused on the science. Otherwise, its aaaalll the soft stuff. Getting the big picture, telling your clients the “3 things” they need to know, and making them care about what you have to say
Program skills: excel, UTM program (most likely GA), some may require SAS, if digital or social - specific platform knowledge
Generic skills: trend analysis, big picture thinking. Nobody wants somebody to just read off how something performed. Learn to dig deeper and see what business implications are
Those are two very different roles and what in Analytics do you want? To be honest you will be limited if you don’t get an advanced mathematics degree. Someone with a PhD will always beat you out once you get into a sr. role.
