RAD1 that’s so not the point. This isn’t about ideas at all, it’s about people not recognizing writing as creativity and don’t refer to writers as creatives as a result. Which is, well, wrong.
It's a small comment, but it irks us writers. I think it's a perfect summation of what seems like a slow devaluation of copy within the industry.
"No one reads copy anymore."
They do if it's good.
"I'm an Art Director but I'm also a Copywriter." No, you're probably not.
"I'm not a writer, but I want ahead and made some tweaks and sent to the client."
Hey, I'm cool with collaboration, but come to me before you just make changes.
"There's a real lack of good copywriters nowadays."
Yeah, because everyone thinks they're one.
"Wanted to loop you in before I kick off with creative."
You mother fucker...
Wow.. I guess more thick skin is needed .. but the reaction was as expected. If you have an issue then bring it up to that Acct person, but more often than not, you’ll just puke your guts out here and then nothing will ever change. Make that change you want to see. :). ( there.. I put a smiley face to let everyone know all is well in the world)
S CW 1: 👊🙌
My challenge would be to creatives to help account people be the kind of account people you love. Talk to them. Tell them what works for you. Don't be the asshole who is an asshole (especially to juniors) and expect them to be an amazing partner to you.
FYI this isn’t just one person misspeaking; I hear it almost weekly. It’s “a small comment” but it says everything about how people view writers. That’s why everybody in this thread is sharpening the guillotine.
SC4 so spot on
LOL@RAD way to not read anything and post an inane response anyways. You deserve to manage, surely.
If a comment this inane set you off, how you gonna survive this industry.
Who shits on PM? They’re better than all of us.
And I love account, I just defended y’all in a post about “what if we removed them entirely”.
Strategists, though... 😂
We all seem to shit on each other (and not understand what others do) but I sadly tend to see an average day as creatives against (or thinking they're above) the rest of the company. Just what I've experienced, hopefully it's better wherever you are.
I hate egos, regardless. And creatives have the biggest ones. Typically the ones that have done 1 cool thing and can’t be bothered with anything “beneath them.” I’ll shit on those kids with you, all day every day! 👊
I feel like project managers are probably a creatives best friend so usually it's account and strat people we do all the eye rolling at...
You need to grow some thicker skin... great ideas are born from different perspectives.
@Director I
It’s not about ego. It’s about understanding the business you work in, and it’s about respect.
Lulz
Considering how much shit all creatives on here give account and strategists and PM, I think everyone can put down the pitchforks and torches over one random person misspeaking.
CW3: 😂🤢
This! For about 20 years. Had an account person tell me once that, and I quote, “I jut don’t know how to work with a CD with a copy background. Uhhhh, you should tell our CCO this, and also tons of other creatives who were and still are from the copy persuasion. Takes both to tango.
🤔
Punch account people apparently
