I’ve helped cover for other associates or junior partners for the last 4 years during 6 parental leaves, with the promise of a reprieve after the associate or partner gets back. 6/6 times, the associate or partner who was out for 3+ months of leave…have given their notice to lateral to another firm or go in house within 1 week of returning to work, and my reprieves canceled. Do I ask for a sabbatical at this point??

Leave, like your former colleagues did. There’s obviously something wrong with the firm that is making them leave. Parental leave is sometimes a first step out the door but it shouldn’t always end up that way unless there’s a larger issue.

like

You can try. Maybe you need to find another spot like they are before someone else goes out

But then they still don’t get a break. The point is about having to cover for others with the expectation that you’ll get a break in consideration and never ever getting it. Could be same anywhere.

This is one of the unfortunate parts of the longer parental leave policies. Your experience isn’t uncommon. How much of a reprieve were you expecting? How long of a sabbatical would you like? How big is your firm?

Can you take a short term disability leave? Then you can take a leave (and perhaps also look for another job).

I’m in a little of a pickle but a good one. Offer A. Established “start up” doing well financially and projected to hit profitability. 130k base. Stocks offered, unlimited PTO, and 70% Medical covered. Offer B. Is at a business much larger…90k salary with 10% bonus and generous stock offering. Titles are different which is why the pay is much different. I know some may think it is a no brainer but offer A allows me to grow the department ground up whereas offer B id be apart of to just different

Hi All,

I have 4 yrs of exp as full stack developer and my current CTC is 15 lpa and notice period is of 3 months. I got an offer from another firm for 24lpa but they have shared the offer letter of DOJ after 2 months and asked me to negotiate my notice period or look for buyout. What should I do in this case? Should I connect with my current hr to negotiate? Cause I tried convincing the new hr to share the offer letter of DOJ after 3 months but she is not in the favour of that.

Hi, received a job offer (accepted) with about 20K increase, 30% bonus and some stock option. Controller position at a startup company. My current company countered with 30% increase, 25% bonus and stock option (already being traded) not a controller title but darn close. Kinda torn as I believe i would have more growth at my current company.

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.

Anyone know when Ch. 7 BKs must close by? Is this changed by when there are adversary proceedings (alleged fraudulent transfers made to a bank for CC payments)? Asking for my friend who is unfortunately involved bc of his parents, who are the debtors (he isn’t a defendant or a debtor in this, but the payments were made to a CC in his name—a CC he didnt know was opened in his name).

Its in Texas, and the initial BK filing was made about 23 months ago. TIA!

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.
