I’ve noticed if you want to get a job within the defense industry of San Diego some of the requirements in the job postings require you to already have an active clearance. I’m wondering as a person that is coming from the healthcare industry if it’s worth it to just apply anyways? General Dynamics Information Technology has an analyst position that caught my eye but the requirement for active clearance and having knowledge of the DOD is a buzzkill. How did any of you get into defense initially?
Don’t sell your soul to evil corp. BUT if you really want to, look for positions with “Ability to receive clearance” in the description or try and talk with recruiter/hiring manager on hard position requirements.
Easiest way to get into defense is Military background or consulting for Bah or NG
If you have any DoD experience it’s a for sure call back.
Aside from that, it depends on the position and your relevant background like with any other job
Apply, you can be cleared by an employer if they really want you to be. The places trying to fill a slot this month will say no, and companies bidding on future work might decide to start the ckesrance process. 80% want a cleared person and 20% will get you a clearance. Also, if you work in s less interesting city, you can get cleared there and move back later. Omaha is probably the best example of a city where cleared jobs are hard to fill.
That's good, getting a GIS job here is competitive. Be patient and get what you really want.

Yes that would be great! And would you be able to supply a referral? Unfortunately today I received an email from BAH for two positions I applied for and they aren’t interested. It seems impossible and mute to get into a DOD career initially with no prior experience with a DOD and no clearance from a previous employer.
