Cash every time. Perks are nice, but you can't pay rent with them. And a lot of those "perks" are cheap in my experience, not anything useful. Like great, 20% employee discount on stuff that's still way too expensive for me. How generous 🙄

Honestly, that’s fair 😅 cash is king when bills are due. I think perks only feel valuable when they’re actually useful or reduce real expenses, otherwise it just feels like shiny packaging instead of real compensation.
I like the perks, personally. Money is important and it's not like you'll get a massive reduction in salary if there are perks, but the perks make things a lot more fun and interesting. My current company gives us lunch at least once a week and that really adds up, probably over $100 worth of food each month. That's not nothing. And there's no taxes for us on it!

I would say salary for me. Perks do feel nice at a time but I guess extra cash has no replacement. In my opinion, extra salary would benefit you in long run.
I feel like it depends on your needs and where youre at financhially. However, Ive now worked in two different kinds of retail jobs with different "perks" and Id say it has vastly been different to me. One was a food service job where we recieved a weeks paid vaction, sick days, 401 k + matching, free meal, free drinks, insurance if we want it, I made more money and had more hours, we got a turkey for thanksgiving and a 100 dollar bonus for christmas. However the job im currently working is a retail job gives me less hours, its a 2 dollar pay cut, no paid vaction, no 401 k, no insurance options. But we got a black friday bonus $100 , a christmas bonus $100, and we get monthly bonuses of $100 to spend at the store, the owner buys us lunch/ breakfast all the time and has tons of snacks and drinks we can eat at the store while on the clock. The store is already discounted at half off retail and we get extra discoints on top of that 15% some days and higher on others. I bought christmas for my family and just a whole bunch of other stuff since with out having to touch apenny of my actual earned income. Id say I really would prefer a 401 k anywhere I work at and I would like the option to earn vaction days as well as sick days. Those are the types of "perks" that matter the most of me. I also really want a higher pay and more hours so I can get where I want to outside of the job.

Thanks for sharing your perspective! I totally get what you mean, perks can be awesome, but things like a 401k, vacation, and consistent pay really make a difference long-term. It’s interesting how different jobs balance cash vs. perks, and how what feels valuable changes depending on your situation.

Both would be nice to have but if I were too choose it would be a salary boost. More money for performing and showing up at your job is great. It would be also nice to have those creative perks as an option .

Totally get that! A salary boost feels like real recognition for the work you’re already doing, but having fun perks on top would definitely be the cherry on top. Appreciate you sharing your perspective!
