Did you see your docket deadlines before you were out and tried to clear them?
Yes, I was aware of them. But I was at capacity and did not have a chance to get to the responses before I left on PTO. I assumed I would have time to do them when I returned but, surprise, there were bottlenecks on my first day back plus the responses. I just don’t understand why I can’t just ask for an extension. There’s only so many hours in the day.
Would this be your first request for extension? If so, I don't understand why your attorney won't allow an extension request.
First extension.
You have to prioritize the discovery responses and when you are asked to do something else, you have to respond that you are working on a task that is more important and you can do it after you finish your deadline.
If the other things are also high priority the person requesting needs to take it up with the attorney who assigned you the discovery responses.
You may also ask for OT. I have a huge caseload based on my area and as long as I clear the OT with my Attys I’m good to go. I sometimes do work 16 hours on a weekend just to get the work done on time
