Just got hired at Accenture as a senior analyst. New to consulting and scared of bench time/getting fired. Any tips on how a new consultant with no skills/experience can avoid bench time?

Welcome to Accenture! You'll be fine. Take the time to connect with your scheduler, and get to know people in the office. You'll be surprised to know what roles/projects are available through networking. With a great attitude and positive outlook, I'm certain you'll get staffed in no time.

Thank you for the encouragement!

Once you land on your first project- do extremely well on that project & that network you built on that project will carry you on throughout your career.

Don’t worry about bench time as a new hire. Reach out to others, introduce yourself, learn about them and their work, and any potential work you can help with. It will set you up for long term success!

Welcome to the family! No worries, when I joined I was on the bench for nearly three months, same for some of my colleagues and none of us got fired. Depending on the project situation, it‘s normal to have some bench time. Take your time to meet some colleagues! Best of luck

Go on LinkedIn and see which people you have in common with Accenture people. Start reaching out. Create a basic template to send our to managers and above. Go to happy hours or networking events if you have them in your office. Get a referral or add people on LinkedIn while you’re there. Join an Intiative that you’re interested in like women’s group, sustainability, recruiting etc. Ask your recruiter, scheduler, mentor etc for any names to recommend you

I was due for a promotion but then covid hit, and during the peak of layoffs/furloughs, I was given the run-around that we have agency wide promotion freezes, etc. Over the past month, a handful of people have been promoted. I know everyone's situation is different but I can't help feeling snubbed. How do I know whether they are genuinely trying to promote me and can't, versus them stringing me along for as long as possible? I dont want it to come to having to bring another offer to the table..

Need advice for resigning while on bench. I already have a start date with the new employer. Should I do a traditional two week notice or give <=1 week notice instead? My goal is to not burn bridges, but I also don’t want to get let go on the spot since I have nothing to “wrap up” besides HR tasks. I’ve read on here that sometimes they will let you go day of and pay you out for two weeks but I don’t see why any firm would do that for somebody not currently performing billable work...

Looking at the way people are laid off, utilization is just one part of it. It's so hard to pin point what is (proper consultants let go from projects, etc..)
