Well worth it IMO - I only really use the electric ones and those things fly / the bike’s weight isn’t really as big of a deal for the pedal assist bikes. I can bike to/from work in the summer months for basically the same price as what riding the CTA would be - at least with the member rates - with the annual fee I’m sure it comes out to be slightly more expensive but you can’t really put a price on how much better biking to work is compared to cramming onto the blue line.
Nah it’s fire. Send it
PwC and uchicago emails have discount some other orgs do too FYI
I don’t think mine does - can we use the discount code from PWC?
It’s ok… useful but like u said, docking can be annoying when they are full and/or when there is not one near your destination.
Other 2 things to think about:
1. The divvy bikes are soooo heavy, not a pleasant riding experience tbh
2. Chicago cold weather (winter, etc.) makes the divvy membership only viable around ~8 months of the year (unless you are a psycho)
Psycho here. I used Divvy year round unless there was snow. I would Divvy to work in the morning and take the CTA home in the dark (I don't like to bike in the dark). Saved me a ton of $$.
Worth every penny
I love the divvy (Lyft pink) membership! Can’t think of any random charges (maybe just turn on notifications so you’ll see them if they happen) and docking hasn’t been an issue! I’ve even seen them waive fees if you have to park near a dock because it’s full
They weigh 5,000 pounds and are virtually impossible to ride. Coming from someone who immediately signed up upon their launch.
If you can wait until Thanksgiving, they used to have a Black Friday deal. I think it was like 25% off their annual membership
I think it is better to have your own bike. You can take your own bike on CTA buses!
I've used Divvy since 2018 and still love it. The first couple of years I qualified for the Divvy for everyone program and an annual membership for $5. Must meet income requirements for that and be receiving Snap benefits, medicaid or some kind of state sponsored assistance.
The last couple of years I've had a high enough paying job to pay the regular price for the membership. Currently $140 , and to me worth every penny. I stay informed on the Divvy app and always look out for the closest docking stations to my destination.
Rhat allows me to leapfrog from one docking station to the next within 45 minutes.
Used Divvy for everything from leisurely rides along the 19 mile lakeshore. Bike trail, to traveling as far north as Evanston or as far south as Beverly.
If you can get used to the bike's weight, the fact that it has only 3 speeds and the logistics, it's a great way to stay nimble.
