That’s an odd thing of your mentorship to say. But happy 40! I hope you find something… it’s admirable for you to still look into the next steps of your career. I’m only 30 and I’m so tired already lol

Haha I'm ready to retire 😪. The thought of working for several more decades is so daunting.
Mentor
Keep applying to higher level roles. You’ll get there!
I switched to produce management at 40. I’m 44 now, and director, so it worked out well in my case. I ended up going down a level initially to get my foot in the door, and was mentored by my new manager. My manager happens to be a really good mentor, so I’m v grateful.
No one mentors properly at my company either - and it’s a large one :)
Thank you I am hoping I can position myself better!
What type of company or industry are you in?
Healthcare but I am not a clinician so I am open to other industries
You’re trying to change career paths so maybe that’s why your mentor suggested office manager since you’re currently a sr program manager. What were you hoping they would say? I’ve learned the only person that will help or care about your career is yourself, so explore opportunities outside your company.
I was an office manager early in my career and don’t find office management interesting or rewarding. I couldn’t agree more we are our own advocates.
