My last interview a guy asked me how I supported myself while currently unemployed! What?? I get it, nothing in the job world seems to make sense anymore. I've also found that employers are extremely vague and quick to misread your qualifications. Anyone else??

I have seen this more recently. Some companies care more about energy and coachability than metrics early on. I do not love it though, it can feel shallow if they ignore actual performance.
My first thought is that your resume must have covered that and the interviewer felt no need to ask about that. In other words, you'd already crossed that bar. Most companies, of course, are more concerned with what you can do for them rather than what you've done already. So perhaps their style is to focus on, as you say, your vibe and general energy.
It may be that they need a good cultural fit and are focused on that. I honestly wouldn't see that as a red flag or anything. Hiring a bad cultural fit can be detrimental to the team.
