I got an offer from another company. Currently working in walmart. The main idea behind getting an offer is to ask for a salary rise. I was very much underpaid here. So I thought getting an offer will help increase my pay here in walmart by getting counter offer from them. But i am not sure if I discuss with my manager it will backfire me.Walmart

Feels like it comes from a place of needing to justify the time away (because we are so pressured to be 150% billable or whatever and essentially chained to our desks).
However I don’t care and I rarely put context to an ooo invite. Oh and also mark it as free and don’t request responses. Ta da.
I only turn mine on for days I have approved off. For public/stat holidays I don’t even bother, nobody should be emailing during that time anyway
Folks want attention. That’s it.
This is an SNL sketch. Please write it.
One sentence saying when you’ll be back followed by list of support contacts is all you need.

I hope folks see this and take it as permission to be private—you don’t ever need to justify your PTO or sick time.
Exactly!!!
Yeah I’ve noticed this too, it’s weird knowing what time your coworkers have therapy during the day.
Also can we talk about cringe auto responses where they’re like “Currently busy sipping on a [insert cocktail here] at the beach in [insert destination here].” Like nobody cares, just tell me when you’re back and who I need to contact in your absense lmao
This happens at my job. The benefits manager would add detailed doctor’s appointment info and a colleague would add detailed vacation info with her husband’s full name. It was kind of funny to read.
Out of office messages should be short and to the point: “I’m on leave, returning on [date] and will respond to your message at that time.” Responsible people alert key colleagues and clients whom to contact while they’re out BEFOREHAND. If it’s necessary to include a contact in the auto response, put one person who can run point and triage issues while out.
People have lives. Get used to it.
Maybe you didn’t read the post? It’s not that OP was frustrated by the time off but questioning the need to overshare. Yeah we have lives. We’re entitled to time off. But nobody needs to know or frankly cares what you’re doing with your PTO… Get used to it?
I just put up the Bradley Cooper hangover “I don’t know you” gif and call it a day
Potentially they’ve never been coached on what’s needed for an OOO and instead copied someone else who also hadn’t been coached.
While it can seem obvious that you don’t need to email everyone your coverage plan and give too much detail, to many it’s not obvious.
It shouldn’t bother you this much, but it also feels like something you could politely bring up with members of your team if you think it’s harming their personal image.
I didn’t say it bothered me that much but was just more of an observation. But you’re right they may have never been coached but in my case, it’s usually more senior folks and it’s not my place to correct them as I am not their manager or incredibly senior myself. I wouldn’t want to offend or overstep either especially since not everyone knows each other that well.
