I joined KGS in feb 2022, we recently got a mail regarding timeline of appraisal and bonus payout from the partner. My reporting manager hasn't yet reached out to me regarding goal setting, not sure if that happens here. Depends, but WLB likely to be as bad or worse. Comp likely to be higher all in but not higher on a cash basis.
It depends on what they’re trying to recruit you for. Do you know if it’s a “deal team” role (making investment decisions) or an “ops team” role (supporting portfolio companies)?
There’s a lot of variation in how those roles are treated / compensated and what they look like on a day-to-day basis.
Some ops teams are similar to a consulting partner - you’ll work on a handful of projects at any given time and primarily play an influencing and guiding role.
Other firms treat their ops team more like a stable of reliable, high-quality resources that they can deploy into high value or messy situations for longer periods of time (6 months - 2 years). In that model, you can expect to be deeply embedded into an organization with ~4-5 / week travel and limited to no junior resources.
Personally, I’d say it’s worth having an initial conversation to see what the role entails and learn about the PE firm. If the role sounds interesting, ask around on the firm and see if it’s worth taking a run at. Not much downside to exploring it
