LA associates, how are things faring for you guys with the fires this season? Is it making you all rethink things? Where do you all currently live and do you buy or rent? Stay safe out there, friends.

Appreciate the kind words, bud. Not near an evacuation zone, but am definitely going to make the landscaping around my house more fire resistant.

lmao 100 yards of space around my LA home? do i take a football field sized weed whacker and spin it in a circle?

Still in mandatory evacuation but relieved my place is still standing (especially since I own). Researching what we’ll need to do to protect ourselves from related toxins.

And at the end of the day, LA is home. I’m sure safer places exist, but it feels like each region is vulnerable to some kind of natural disaster.

Thanks for thinking of us — it’s been a truly terrible week here.

There’s recommended procedures and equipment for cleaning up toxic ash without creating more fine particle pollution; there are special filters you can purchase for air purifiers that are geared towards smoke; depending if there’s smoke damage, I might need to hire a fire cleaning service. So far as I understand, typical air quality measurements (e.g. the one provided by Apple Weather) don’t factor in the most harmful product of wildfires (PM 2.5), so I’m thinking of getting a PurpleAir air quality monitor. Similarly, I need to research the safety of the tap water…

I think I have work trauma not sure how it’s clouding my ability to make decisions. I’ve had unstable work after being laid off from a company 3 years ago. I thought I worked out a plan to get to a stable place but my job is proving to be unstable yet again. I secured a FT role at another company but because it’s a lot less money I’m unsure because I feel very cynical about companies in general. I assume it’ll be just like all the rest but now I’ll just be making less and could get laid off.

Have an interview with a company I really want to work for tomorrow. My last job I was laid off b/c of an acquisition&recently accepted a job at a diff company b/c I couldnt afford not to. I got this invite shortly after. The place I’m interviewing at the job wouldn’t start til next year. I dont want to seem like a job hopper. Do i tell them I’m at a new role or just not bring it up? The acquisition was public so they can see Im no longer employed with the most recent work history on my resume

How to move things along with forgetful partners? I am a new 1st year and I am staffed with a partner who is swamped. They are great but otherwise very busy and occasionally forgetful (meetings with other partners or associates, assignments to review, responding to others). Is there a way to appropriately remind them of things without being an irritating junior?

Mid 2020, I turned down an opportunity to jump ship from my small law firm to a big law firm. At the time I had 4 years of practice under my belt with managerial experience. What avenues do I have, if any, to jump into big law from a small firm?
