Pros: WL balance, being able to throw a load of laundry between meetings, home-cooked meals and being home when my kids are back from school is priceless.
Cons: none LOL well, maybe bonding with coworkers? And at least knowing the faces of people you don’t normally work with. Ummm catered lunches?
In my experience, there is absolutely a way to form relationships working remotely. It
is of course harder to do than when you’re in person, but if you put in the effort you totally can form relationships just as strong. Some of my best work friends that I text 24/7 I still haven’t met in real life.
Here’s a bad analogy maybe — people meet online and fall in love from across the world before they can even meet. Trust me, if you put in the work, you can have relationships and an awesome WFH work/life balance as well
Great, but downside is lack of work relationships and collaboration. Also I find I work more hours in a day and and never hit my step goals. But even with those, I love WFH.
Pros: good excuse to buy a nice coffee machine ;)
Seriously though, it depends on your priorities. I like to be at home with the dog, walk in my lunch break, get washing done, take the odd music break etc.
I hate commuting, usually get distracted in the office, and wouldn’t get home until the sun has gone in for most of the year.
It helps that my manager is very good at keeping the team together, we do daily catch up calls as a team and quarterly in person team meetings. If you’re someone that rolls your eyes at the thought of daily webcam calls, I’d say remote working isn’t for you!
I'm in the process of hunting one of those unicorns myself. Tips are 💯 welcome.
I'm definitely seeing job postings out there, but I'm also being a little picky to try and find a company who is a good fit for my passions and values. It seems like Hybrid is much more common than actual Remote, though.
Pro: No commute. Used to waste hour to and hour from work in car and not with fam. Con: no adult time. Interact with my kids only. lol.
I started with a fully remote company a month ago. Pros: flexibility, can focus better without distractions. Cons: it is harder to ramp up and understand the team dynamics. However, I work with really nice people and really happy with my decision.
Pro: dog sits in my lap all day. I don’t have to commute. I get way more work done and I’m more productive.
Con: work longer. Also, if you’re an extrovert, it gets old. I miss in-person meetings and the socializing of being in an office.
