Pretty simple: You get interviews and offers.
Recruiters often just say what they think you want to hear to apply. They may not know the nuance of your practice or whether it’s a good fit for a posted role. It’s a numbers game to most recruiters. Unless you’ve found one that truly understands your specific practice and works with firms to hire for that practice, I’d take what they say with a grain of salt.
You can explain your work in depth, a resume that shows you are taking on responsibility, good references, and direct experience, usually 1-2 years. A mix of those makes you competitive.
Yeah I think you can only know your competitive edge by how much of a response you get and how much recruiters take you seriously. I try to get honest feedback from recruiters as early as possible and find out what they think I need to do to increase my odds of getting hired.
It’s whatever the hiring attorney is wanting in their head, it even changes as they interview people and they cull down the group.
