I'd counter the base salary to about $230k. Remember with Amazon your base will not grow as fast as other companies. So you better start as high as possible.
Yes counter for a reduction in the offer amount. Those are crazy numbers
Those numbers just seem silly high for an L6
These are fake numbers idk why this thread keeps getting attention
Guess you should reassess your potential and what you have been lowballed and made to live with it ?
Is the sign on for real? What role is this for and how many YOE? Thanks
Is that first year total comp at $549k?!! Hollly crap. How many YOE do you have?

how do i get my first remote job
Be picky and apply to remote-option jobs. When I search for jobs I set the filter to remote or WFH and don’t even bother looking at non-remote positions
These numbers are higher then my recent L7 offer at Amazon. It was only $245k base and $480TC. I was at the top of the range for the L7 role also….
Agreed- this looks like a high L7 offer
Every time I read posts with salaries in the U.S, I feel sorry for people doing same job but paid less in the Europe, including me
Protected work environment results in low competition. I will need to leave since no bright future in Europe nowadays
Are you happy with the offer, I recommend getting in where you need to be. Never take a job with the anticipation of increase…
What are these numbers!? My rule is always counter, but this looks like a great deal to me.. I’d sign it immediately sated they might correct any mistakes 😂. That’s a crazy signing bonus.
Accepted the offer as is; upon attempt of negotiation recruiter indirectly said there was no room for negotiation. Thank you everyone for the feedback!
I’m not sure what your max base is but I’d be at a minimum 8% away from the max base at amazon. Average 4% base raise every year, and your first two years your cash flow isn’t hurt because of the signing bonuses. This way you get 8% more stock at no downside to you.
+1
What level is L6 at Amazon? How many years of experience?
8-10
That is a solid offer. The base is towards the higher end for San Diego. I am also an L6 manager for a big tech in San Diego and the #s are comparable to mine. For those that are commenting on demanding work from home or not taking the offer, I wish you good luck. I can tell you I won't hire engineers with that attitude. There has to be flexibility in both directions. OP, you can counter but if they say no you can feel confident they are not low-balling you.
Quick Answers:
- Engineer role
- 10 YOE, BS+MS in engineering from top university
- Role mainly remote
Additional questions, DM me.
What kind of engineering (it won't let me dm you, I'm new here and not enough hearts or whatever)? I'm trying to carve out a lucrative career path for myself in tech and wondering what field of engineering - software?
I live by the rule of you ALWAYS counter. Worst case they hold firm and you make an educated decision. Best case they increase a bit to compromise. You’re your biggest advocate!

I dont get how this is a high offer for L6 engineering at amazon. This is right in line with other Faang equivalent levels aka E5 at F, L5 at G, senior swe at N, etc.
If you think that stock ticker is going to bounce back then because of the grant date you will be okay, though you will be already heavy on company stock.
If you consider the big sign-on is cash then it's still okay.
Getting less equity for more cash is good, esp. for the pay raises, and also for benefits like life insurance which is X times on target earnings.
Good offer otherwise, doesn't seem like a low-ball.
