I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, and it can make operating in professional environment pretty challenging at times. Everyone's experience is different, but often what it means for me is struggling with setting priorities, honoring deadlines, and keeping details organized.
I'm still doing a lot of learning, but my manager helps me a lot by just checking in on me (personally) and helping avoid feeling shameful if something is a tad off course with a project. Having an open door to say, hey I'm struggling with X, can you help me redirect? Has been very helpful.
For me, keeping my notes in One Note so they are all in one place for quick reference has been very helpful. In meetings, repeating back my action items, expected dates for follow up, etc. And then ensuring I have them written down once confirmed helps, too. Anything in my email that needs revisited is flagged so I cannot ignore it. Also, it may sound silly, but it helps me to change my scenery throughout the day; sometimes I leave the office to finish my day at home during the early afternoon, or need to break for a walk/drive during work because it is difficult to focus at my computer all day.
Ultimately, what's helped me the most is having a manager who understands what I'm dealing with and leaves the door open for transparency both ways. You being here asking how you can help your employee I think shows a great deal of care, so thank you for that!
The more you can understand how ADHD affects brain function and what your employee struggles with, the better you'll be able to meet them where they're at and find a successful path forward. 😊

Have them use your company’s EAP resources so they can better handle the scope of work. Although you should have empathy, you also need to enforce work metrics, work load, and deadlines. At the end of the day, it’s you who are accountable to leadership.
Wanted to throw this video in here! It's actually a pretty good representation of how it feels in your head and how hard it can be to keep yourself from constantly being distracted and switching tasks. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1833608997039339?s=yWDuG2&fs=e&mibextid=Nif5oz
