Please don’t listen to people who say to aim lower because you work at Accenture. Is it very difficult to get into McK, BCG or FAANG? Sure. Of course. But people on these apps glorify them a bit too much. You can get to those companies with far less impressive of a name on your resume than Accenture. It comes down to your experience and your own skills/who you are as a person. Where you work doesn’t define that, though certain names make it easier to get in the door, of course.
But to your question—wait for promotion. It’s more impressive to have a legit promotion on your resume.
All well and good, but I agree that you should have done some basic research before posting such a generic question. Also, you are at Accenture now.... not sure about your chance to make it to your target firms. Your lack of research and own initiative makes me doubt that a little.
EY1, you're lame. Don't pretend like your fishbowl time is worth gold - we're all here to procrastinate while picking up a new detail here or there. I throw out dumb questions on every bowl all the time - def not gonna waste the time to do research before posting. OP, apply when you're ready. Doesn't make a real difference in the long run if you land as a SA or C1 here. Yeah lower salary for 1 year but still prob a pay bump and gives you an extra year at the firm before PL
Figure out what you want to do and apply then.
Laterals typically take a step back coming in. If you have <3-4 years exp, youll prob just come in as entry level undergrad (Associate for us, BA for McK). That’s to your benefit
Or maybe instead of another consulting firm switch to industry maybe FAANG? Thoughts?
Thanks for the support. I plan to do more research this was just to test the waters quick.
OP I’m a consultant (L9) in Strat currently in the process of interviewing with BCG. I knew it was time when their recruiter messaged me. In general, I saw a major shift in the types of offers I was receiving around the 2,5 year mark. Before that it was entry-level roles in industry and no-name IT shops, now I regularly get offers for strategy firms and some more interesting industry roles. I’m not feeling super confident about passing the BCG selection but I’m generally optimistic about exit oops at this point, and I’m even starting to like my current job at ACN:)
What practice are you in?
Waiting more won’t help your case because there’s no innate knowledge you’ll know and no clients you can bring over. So try now and knock their socks off in the interview and get that position!
SAP work is not exactly strategy. Rather a commodity for which one can’t charge a premium. Not to burst your bubble, but I have seen many folks with that background, and they struggle to switch from tech thinking to business thinking.
