Lot of postings for forensic Partner-level at mid-size firms (RSM, Forvis, etc.). Are these typically filled by someone in Big-4 with an MD-size book but not partner level (for them) so it’s a chance for equity, or people at regional firms with smaller books that these firms plan to invest in to help them grow?
The direct admit roles, especially in this industry, strike me as odd, as aren’t most of us where we want to be by the time we get to that level?

My understanding is that partnership, at least at the larger firms, is often very political and at times un-meritocratic. The partners with the largest comp packages are oftentimes just the ones who have been around the longest or who played their cards right with the other partners, not necessarily the ones with the biggest or fastest growing books of business.

What I think you’re seeing is PE getting into mid-sized firms and specifically trying to target the latter group of partners for recruitment with promises of higher pay.

Also, I could be wrong but I don’t see a lot of these direct admit roles being filled by Big 4. The Big 4 tend to have a lot of conflict issues, consequently take on different project types, and have a different route to market then others in the industry, making their business less compatible with mid-sized firms. My observation is that most of these direct admit roles go to people at consulting firms like A&M, AP, FTI, BRG, Kroll, etc.

I’ve seen plenty of Big 4 MDs/Partners go to mid-tier. In the last year or so a few have gone to BDO and RSM, for example. Why is this of interest to you?

In the industry and will be for many years. Just trying to understand some of the future outlook and reasons for actions by those at the top.

I find the “book of business” term for consulting quite puzzling. Yes, relationships matter, but It’s not wealth management, jumping to a competitor you’re likely not bringing any of your clients for 2+ years. Similarly, the difference in partner and MD is not the size of the book but the ability to open up new accounts and relationships.

Professionals in our field are often brought on board based on their CV rather than their current firm, especially when the job involves providing testimony. And as you noted, this isn’t a traditional wealth management setting, so there’s a strong chance you’d be able to transition your attorney clients over as soon as as a new lead surfaces, even if it’s right away.

Good evening all,
With my partner we are considering making a move to the countryside of Switzerland, with a gorgeous RE project offering incredible views on immaculate mountains and lake. However, it is far away, and will require 1h+ train/car commute vs. 10 min biking right now. We are scared it will bite us back at some point, although COVID helped w/ remote working being a new norm. The project will be done 2024, so I hope to have a more relax job by then. I accepted a new job, they said PTO was “generous.” I find out it’s 19 days a year of PTO (which includes sick days). I have two young children and we like to vacation 1-2x a year (no more than a few days away each time). Am I crazy that this is pretty limited time off? 8 of the normal holidays off during the year (working the week between Christmas and NYE). Thoughts? I dont know if lack of PTO is a good reason to back out, is it?

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!
