Only take a pay cut it it could mean faster career advancement in the future. Like a boomerang.
I always take the straight pay over extra benefits. I’m currently at my first small company with better pay, less benefit, but great people and work life balance. I love it and feel respected more than any big agency I’ve ever been at.
This is so helpful and reassuring to hear! Thank you!
Compare the total comps for both and see how much is really being cut. Id personally take a lower salary but higher 401k match. I would also factor in company culture/interview chemistry into your decision bc a small increase won’t matter if the company culture sucks.
This is great advice, thank you for sharing!
Benefits have $$ assigned to them. What benefits are we talking? 401k matching, that’s east to calculate (note that it’s a 4 year vesting schedule). Health insurance premiums, how much more/less than the other co? They have a barista to save you $5/day on lattes?
Or are we talking non monetary? Work life balance? Creative fulfillment?
Are there a lot of caveats? Getting paid well and wanting a good work environment doesn't feel like too many, but does seem to be a hard combo to find lol
I get the sense there would be an obvious choice here for someone who's more seasoned than I am. I'm not so accurate in my predictions on how some benefits or decisions will impact me down the road, which is why I'm asking :) I'm sure others have been here before; I'm hoping they'll share some of their lessons with me.
My real issue is that I don't know what it's like at either and I'm currently in a position where I was COMPLETELY misled on the job and the company culture and I'm afraid of it happening again :|
Also note you’re not going to get decent raises at TeamOne for a few years…
I'm glad you flagged this. I've also heard this... And they seem to start you out lower than other companies, which isn't my favorite 😕
