Wow. McKinsey, which has the biggest public sector presence of the MBB, really hasn't been doing too hot at all in the sector.
Its presence is tiny and it's gotten even smaller. Meanwhile it's bungling whatever opportunities it's getting.

Many firms just had their largest class ever just start this past summer on top of associate and consulting interns getting automatic jobs after internships on top of an unsure economy and slow case work at the moment. Wouldn't surprise me if hiring slowed down a lot considerably for the next little while
Consulting does well during periods of change.
This period is almost a clear downtrend. Need the volatility for consulting to thrive
Full time recruiting classes are almost always small. They might have been big the last few years but when I started 5 years ago I was one of 2/40 Cs in my office that were full time hires.

Maybe they just don't see the value in inexperienced MBAs and are going towards experienced lateral hires? I just got my MBB offer today, and I was at big4. Tech is frozen, but consulting is very much alive and well at the moment for hiring.
