Mom says I'm being foolish for leaving my high-paying job for law enforcement. It's a family business, averaging $80-100 an hour (commission). Conveniently, I can work anywhere, but as you can imagine, benefits are non-existent. I've always wanted to become a cop and then a detective. The job starts at $25 an hour. I started comparing the salaries, and the doubts grew. My friends are making me second-guess it too. Do I stay or chase my dreams and adjust my lifestyle by half?

The decision is ultimately up to you. You can always try becoming a cop and if it's not for you, I assume you could go back to your family's business. Good luck to you!

This decision is a tough one. Understandably, you might question it, but chasing your dreams is worth the sacrifice. After all, law enforcement is a calling, not just a job.

Even if the salary isn't as high as what you're used to in your family business, think about the other benefits of law enforcement: job security, excellent health, retirement benefits, and making a meaningful difference in people's lives.

The financial sacrifices may be difficult now, but they'll be worth it in the long run when you can look back at how much good you were able to do.

Remember that a law enforcement career can open up many career growth opportunities. Ultimately, it will be up to you to weigh the pros and cons of this decision and decide which path is best for you!

Ultimately, the decision is yours, and it's essential to consider the pros and cons of staying in your family business versus chasing your dream. While it's understandable to be intimidated by the drastic pay cut, you can see it as an opportunity to expand your horizons and experience fulfilling work.

Hi All,
In the HR discussion, we both agreed on 30L CTC (10% Variable) and 1L joining bonus. But later after 2-3 days when they need to release the offer, HR is saying they got the approval for 28L CTC(10% variable) and 2L joining bonus.

Should I take that offer and look for other options or straight forward reject the offer and then look for other options?

Also, according to this behaviour of the HR, is it good behaviour?

Any advice on a first year trying to transition from family law to in-house? I always thought family law was my path, and used to enjoy it, but it’s not the direction I want to head in anymore. I don’t think I even want to continue with any litigation work. I’m having a hard time finding firms that are hiring entry level associate positions that don’t require at least 3+ years experience in-house. Should I start at a business law firm to get experience working with corporations first?

Hi, I’m looking to switch into marketing (entry level), as consulting is not aligned with my skill set/passions. Does anyone know of any ad agencies in LA that have good work-life balance, good pay, PTO, great culture, promotions, training? Your help means more than you know!!! Looking to do informational interviews and try to network my way in, as I feel the barrier to entry was much harder than anticipated. Anything helps, thank you so much!

Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine. Maybe I’m just a slow learner/out of my league at the big law firm I’m at.
