By the.time my daughter was 2 she learned how to defeat every type of visible child proof lock.you could use on drawers and cabinets. I finally had to spend some serious money on the hidden magnetic locks for everything in her room. I once left the magnetic key in there by accident and she used it to open every drawer and take out all her clothed.
She is now 3 and her 5 year old brother asks her help to unlock the cabinet where the trash can is so he can throw out trash.
And as far as gates, I have the tall.ones, and they both scale them like SWAT teams without even trying.
We had that plastic childproof thing over the door handle and one day my kid hulked out by grabbing it and ripped it off. He proceeded to say I just wanted a fruit snack
We have the magnetic ones only on cleaning supplies and the good China. And the retractable gates until my 2 yo pulled it out of the wall
You know what’s funny - I have never put a child lock or barrier on anything and we have never had a problem (except on the stairs). My daughter is two and doesn’t “rummage” through anything. I wonder if it’s because it’s always been open to her it’s like no big deal and she ignores it.
Could be worse, you could have a climber. Then every gate is defeated! 🧗♀️
