I don’t think so there is any compensation. There are several reasons why one still does it - to build credibility, to create dependency, to establish going the extra mile image etc.
In the end it all depends on:
- how is your manager, will this extra hard work reap you any benefit in the longer term
- is there anything new to learn in the new project
- is it a short term commitment as doing it longer term will lead to burn out
If all the above is no then you can try and say No to the project stating how the main project is demanding/ conflicting calls between the projects/ requesting shadow resources to help you on the second.
I have personally doubled up on multiple occasions as long as its manageable where are know none of the project work will be compromised, and it has helped me build a trusting rapport with my manager
You will not get any benefit personally . KGS will benefit if you charge both 40+32 in a week . They will earn money from the US . The only thing you will get is the oncall amount that if your manager agrees .
