are you personally signing off on the audit report? i assume not, so you have no reason to be stressing like this and it’s not your place to say whether or not you have sufficient evidence for things. different audit areas have different levels of risk that inform the approach and the level of scrutiny applied.
I guess that’s fair. I don’t want the associates coming forth and questioning all sampling and testing methodologies. I do want them alert for fraud or potential fraud but that’s different. I do find the more experienced seniors and managers have more reason to question exactly what we are doing. I just feel like at my firm, the partners are not in the weeds enough for every other person to just shrug their shoulders and say “oh well, it’s not me signing the opinion”
Get everything in writing so your back is covered if things go sour.
You stand your ground, say so and work with the team to get sufficient evidence.
Are those in higher risk areas like revenue? Or is it related to simpler accounts that they might not have the best processes for? And what level of experience are you?
Go directly to the Engagement Partner with the issue if you don't feel you are comfortable with what the Manager is telling you to do.
Take the file as far as you’re able to, and get organized on a list of open items needed to finish your sign offs. If your manager wants to pass on items, get an explanation for why.
Send em an email saying xyz is what you have and ask them if they think it is adequate with respect to due diligence. Frame it like you need their guidance as a less experienced underling. They say ok save the email and be done with it. No answer or say you make the call ask for what you need. Problem solved.
When I was an associate. I would sign off as to i had prepared the workpapers with what documentation was provided. If it wasnt enough to make a positive conclusion then it's not. And futher testing will be needed until they prove positive results. But I would sign off as I had prepared as much as I could
What you said in an email to your manager asking him to confirm. Then it is on him. Slip out of the noose now so if the trap door fall he in it and not you.
