Your manager just learned he's been underpaid for years while the company paid market rate to bring you in. That's a "him versus HR" problem, not a you problem – but he might make it one.
Watch for subtle undermining: being left off projects, harsher feedback, getting bypassed for opportunities. Some managers handle pay inequity professionally. Others punish the person who exposed it, even though you didn't create the situation.
This is what happens when companies refuse to adjust existing salaries to market rates – they build resentment between colleagues instead of just paying people fairly. If his attitude tanks, document everything and consider whether this role stays worth it under a manager who resents your existence.
