I would definitely try to get a second opinion. It may be a hassle at first but the reward of getting a doctor who’s more attuned to your needs and can give you better support is probably worth it in the long run. And then the two of you can work through the challenges during that much-needed STD period 👍
Are you able to find another psychiatrist?
fyi one of the fastest ways to do what D1 and DD1 suggest is to get copies of your medical records and call a teledoc (assuming your plan covers it). They are usually super willing to update your meds and provide notes, etc provided you can document your diagnosis.
...and all of my senior leadership told me to take the time I need. My psychiatrist is a bonafide pill pusher and now has me on Xanax, in addition to the fullest dosage of Zoloft and Adderall which I’ve been taking for the last 6 months. She claims having the STD on my record is not good, and that she’ll sign off on unpaid FMLA instead. I need the STD benefits to offset basic living expenses. I’ve never physically attempted suicide, but I frequently think dark thoughts and have crying spells. The panic attack, which happened out of nowhere, was a huge wake up call to take time out. I don’t know what to do without my psychiatrist’s support. I need time and paid days off to get my life together. I hate how lack of finances is a barrier to my peace. I just paid a bunch of debt off. I don’t know what to do. Please help.
*Edit to add I’ve been with my firm for less than a year (10 months), which I think disqualifies me for FMLA
