This is probably not a good employer either. If this is what is offered, they will likely have trouble making payroll and will also expect you to do overtime either included in your salary or straight hours.
Salary wise, my advise is: join a construction firm as an assistant PM. This will be equal or higher that what you expect. Gain some experience in construction. No more than three years. Then put this on your resume and ask whatever you want.
This is internship level pay. The range you are expecting seems fair.
Licensed architect with 20yr exp here. If you have already graduated. You should start looking at junior positions and not internships. My first job out of undergrad was full time salary with over time and benefits.
hey! what I’ve noticed from most of my architecture friends going into the industry (nyc chicago and new orleans) and myself starting salary is around 50k (new orleans) 65-70k (nyc and chicago). Also salary includes a ton of other benefits
You’re in Georgia so $20-$30 with less than 3 years of experience is expected
$20/hr is roughly $41,000 a year. That is not a fair starting salary in Atlanta even in an economy like this. $30/hr is more accurate
If your degree makes you eligible for licensure in architecture, you can expect a min salary of $50k. (Up to 70k). Saying that, layoffs have started especially in firms reliant on private developers who are impacted most by the rising interest rates and for now, high construction costs. For example, Multifamily starts are down 60% right now.
The construction industry has slowed, and many firms have cut significant amounts of employees. I’m a RID with 15 years exp, and I was laid off in a wave of 15-20 from my firm. I have struggled to find work for 2+ months - even with taking a pay cut, but there will be at least 200 people applying for the same job as me.
These firms are likely offering lower figures since the hiring pool is so large, and they’re at an advantage to do so. It isn’t fair by any means, but this is where we are now.
$20 is definitely in the lower end, but sounds about right if it's a small boutique firm
