You only regret the opportunities you don't take. Do it man.
For double I wouldn't think twice if I had no problem relocating.. Unless you're gonna pay me 150k, peace Deloitte ✌🏼
Don't see how you can really turn this down if salary is double. You'll be making more than managers and more that SM in smaller markets. Assuming you're OK with the relocate?
Double??? You know how many more busy seasons you need to work to double your current salary. I envy you.... take it
^ gonna need you to elaborate on the COL part. This can change everything haha
^NY is expensive, but no way COL is double. Maybe rent doubles but other COL expenses aren't that much more. Maybe 15% more everywhere else. Also consider that the salary # matters. You're creating your salary history. Future opportunities down the line will be scaled off of your current salary (recruiters always ask). Even if it's the same standard of living, you'd want to take the double salary if all else equal.
Public accounting will always take you back if you change your mind
😬 hmmm yeah double might not help tooo much for standard of living then. All depends
I dunno, it'd take more than double for me to live in NYC. It'd be fun but doesn't fit into what I want long term. So I'd want to be paid enough to put away a bunch of money in addition to just living expenses. It all just depends on what you want.
It's too soon to leave, but it's such a tough decision to turn down... I would have to relocate as well... anyone experience this dilemma? I wouldn't leave for 25% increase but it's almost double and a lot less hours...
You guys are right, thanks! I'm going to spend the next few days weighing options, but will most likely take the leap. I know Uncle D can't match the salary. It's a crazy opportunity that came through connections for an immediate opening. Yes its double, but I'd also be moving from a low/medium COL to high COL. Just insane how quickly this all unfolded... 😳
From a medium sized city and COL (similar to Atlanta) to NYC
^good point 👍
SS1 is right. Even if you netted the same, you could take 150 here for a few years, then move back to a low COL place at 120 or 130 at your dream job and be far ahead your peers that stayed at the firm, in experience and comp
Agree withpwc2. Just don't burn bridges on your way out, but go for it!
