Not exactly what I would call negotiating from a position of strength here. 🤔 Would you hire this Copywriter? I'm not sure I love this strategy... but maybe it's secretly brilliant?

I see nothing wrong with this. I’d at least have a conversation with them were I in need of a copywriter. It’s not like it changes their position in any way. If they spoke with someone about a job without posting this he’d say the same thing as to why he’s not employed currently.

I applaud his honesty and vulnerability. And I despise anyone thinking a guy wanting to make a living and asking for help is “cringe”.

like

I’m sorry Op, this is very low of you to post. This man put his dignity aside asking for help and you post it on here to make fun? No!

like

Someone may see it here and offer him a job. You never know.

I understand the struggle, but sir where is your dignity

like

When you have bills to pay and a family to support, your dignity goes out of the window.

I have compassion for that guy's struggle, but frankly didn't like his writing style. The subtext is that he's too special as a 43 year old man to experience financial and career adversity.

He sounds like a sad puppy. He should send his rez to the ASPCA.

funny

Exactly. The guy wants to be hired as a copywriter and he sounds pathetic. Won’t get hired that way unless you want to offer therapy day 1. Would be better to write from a position of strength, even when desperate. If this is how he writes he needs to find a new career

This is not cringe. People are desperate. Many have been unemployed for a couple of years since the job markets tanked. They've gone through their savings and they're fighting for survival. Be kind. Instead of mocking people, maybe you should try to help. This very well could be you as more cuts continue to be made.

Was this pinned so we can continue to shame the OP for thinking this is cringe?

I thought that too of some of the middle eastern and Caribbean island managers I worked with on a job once, but they turned out to be the most supportive and inquisitive. But I feel ya, sometimes you can sense if they'll be hostile toward you. But I don't give af at this point. In the end, they're still professionals working for Big 4 and probably won't dare say anything to you about it, even if it does bother them. Way I see it, ignorant people like that don't go very far working in our industry.

I am thinking of leaving my stable full time job for a contract position (ongoing with no time frame) for a bigger raise (making an exra $20/hour) with a large tech company. I'll still get benefits through Aquent so it's not a huge loss. It just feels risky in terms of being a contractor and the potential for it to end at anytime. Seems like a good opportunity though to get my foot in the door and potentially apply for full time jobs later on

While joining, the company says.. Congratulations, here is your offer letter. Kindly confirm your acceptance over email. As the last step you have to sign the OL "on the date of your joining."

Ques: Is signing OL on the date of joining a normal thing to do? On what basis should I be confident to tell my current org that I am leaving. What if they revoke?

Does anyone think it’s a good idea to beg for a job and put your personal life out there to get sympathy, because that is what I am seeing every day on LinkedIn and then the recruiters and everybody will comment and send the jobs and they will end up with a job or interview the next day.
I’m getting close to the point of doing that because it seems like it is working.

Biggest cringe for me has got to be when people include “ex-<company name>” in their title… see it for loads of the big 4 firms and I’m thinking wow you must love slave drivers that underappreciate you 🤣

Is it just me or do 90% of the jobs being laid off by big tech sound made up? Many job descriptions with multiple bullet points that all kinda revolve around the same idea. One of my buddies works for a big IT company and literally just sits on meetings all day. No one really contributing to anything other than agreeing to whatever the speaker is saying. Are these kind of jobs finally being exposed? Six figure employees getting paid to sit and bounce ideas off each other?

This whole thing is cringe - how proposed after forcing employees to make a fake commercial and attend, calling himself rainmaker, the formatting. Image of the text in comments.

on the way to an interview this morning eating a sandwich. I walked past a homeless man who had a stray cat perched on his lap. He asked for a bite of sandwich to feed them both as they hadn’t eaten in days. I gave the whole sandwich over and headed off to the interview. As I got to the interview room there was a large executive chair facing away from me. The chair turned and on top was a mirror. When looking in the mirror I could see the cat. I am the cat.
