Not really a law exit but I have an opportunity that I'm not sure about. I've been in public interest law for 11 years. I am in a leadership position but not terribly happy. I've been offered a 3 year term (excepted service appointment) with HHS. It's fully remote and the salary is a $20k boost, but there's no guarantee of a permanent career track. wonder if any govt attys on here have any thoughts on the risk of a term apptmt.

I just received an offer from BNY Mellon, and as per their terms and conditions mentions BNY can solely decide to reject or not accept our resignation letter, even though the notice says 60 days? Is it even legally allowed?

Can we never leave them after handing over the resignation letter until they agree as well?

I have been a practicing (patent prosecution) lawyer in different firms for about 20 years. I would love to do something more creative but still techie (computers, telecom, apps, etc.). I've always been interested in improving the software that practicing lawyers use (whether patent-specific or not). I am also kind of an academic at heart, but I live in a locale where professorial jobs are pretty limited and we're rooted here now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
