I’m here with you. It’s scary to read that an Xer is ten years out from retirement. Lol.
I have some Xer developers. I think the industry weeded us out and around into management or architecture or sales or what not.
Lol that's a good question. I'm solidly milennial and have worked with plenty of gen Xers in my career. They're usually my managers or principal engineers. Some are in leadership. Take heart, friend, they're out there.
GenX here and I'm pretty sure I'm the oldest in my department.
Part of it is that the industry is so new and has grown so much that there are simply not that many older software developer, relative to the new ones that are graduating each year.
If you think about the number of software engineers in 1970 vs the number today, it's clear that the vast majority are going to be younger.
I'm job hunting and while researching companies, I look to see if there are people my age... any suggestions for companies that have GenXers are welcome!
