Other than better paternity leave benefits than even 10-15 years ago, are parents in the workforce getting much help these days? I honestly am impressed whenever I see a family with young kids holding it together since things have gotten so expensive. Trying to advance your career while building a family is so tough now.

No. Childcare costs more than rent in most cities, school schedules don't match work schedules, and remote roles are disappearing in every industry. The paternity leave improvements are nice, but they don't fix the rest. I've got two young kids myself. Between work and parenting, every day feels like a marathon right now.

like

It is brutal. I'm exhausted every day, have very little time for myself, and I'm having a hard time enjoying my kids because I'm always worried about all the expenses.

Financially difficult to be on one income, tough to be 2 working parents in the home. No easy choice either way. Paternity leave is significantly better. There is hope that in another 10+ years, everything else will follow that.

like

That’s a good point. I know many people who decided against having kids just because they couldn’t see a realistic way to juggle it, and I completely understand that.

I got 8 weeks paternity, wife works part time i make 130 we live modest and her parents help a lot. Without them she would have to be full time at home and i would have to commute for more $ and we would be 10x stressed. Grandparents can be saviors. What sickens me is how hard middle class gets hit with taxes and expenses then you go out to like a grocery store and see people with kids that are probably here illegally or if they are here legally they are getting support from the government paid by us. The great replacement is real.

like

And to clarify, It’s not so much their fault even, its our government. I’m not mad at most of these people for wanting to better their lives, I’m mad at the people we, or ~1/2 of us, voted for over the past idk 40+ years for taking our money and giving it to people who aren’t even from here at the detriment of us. There are roughly 300-350 million Americans and literally Billions of people living in countries with lower standards of living than us, many of whom would love to move to a country like the US to better their lives but we can’t help them all. Theres a point where there are just too many people coming in at one time especially unchecked/illegally, and we have long reached that point. And yea my ancestors came here but legally and they did not receive benefits of any kind. They worked hard paid taxes and contributed more to society than they received not to mention they assimilated to American culture because back then the narrative didn’t vilify American culture.

Child care is crazy. How viable is it to wfh and care for a kid?
