Our owner keeps making big kitchen changes without asking anyone. Like new equipment shows up randomly, the layout gets reworked overnight, and they’re constantly adding menu items we don’t have the staff or space to handle. It’s completely thrown off our flow, and morale is tanking. If you had to pick one battle to push back on first, what would you focus on?

Menu creep, hands down. You can work around bad equipment or layouts, but if the menu keeps ballooning, you’ll never catch up. Shut it down before it kills consistency and your sanity.

Yeah this is really a tough one. Agree with SC. They’re probably trying to drum up sales, but you need to put your foot down and have a pared down menu if there isn’t enough staff to handle it.

Communication is the first battle. The owners or managers need to be told that the staff must be informed of these actions prior to working their shifts.Doesnt sound like they know what they are doing. If I was one of the staff, I’d be looking for a new place to work.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.
