Yes. It’s reasonable.
So you say VP, so you say...
Yes it is reasonable. They are paying you a salary for the a stipulated number of hours. If they say keep camera on then you should. Be happy that you are getting to wfh for a few days cause in reality when you signed the offer letter, you agreed to be available for the company during the time mentioned and work for that you are getting money.
Chief
Ditto. If it means turning on camera to work at home, I’ll do it.
I think cameras should be on for every meeting.
No dress attire needed.... Wear whatever you want, who cares what your wearing .....
Absolutely! Why wouldn’t they?
Doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I'm on camera voluntarily for pretty much every meeting. If you were in office people would see you. Kind of seems like a "pick your battles" situation.
Cameras on are a distraction
Cameras on are a distraction if there is no professional meeting etiquette.
I don’t turn my camera on unless it’s a 1-1 or other small meeting. Larger meetings, esp if someone is presenting, makes no sense.
It always depends....but I can say my experience is that when i have to present in a large meeting it helps to see some faces responding to what i am saying....otherwise it is just talking out to the void....and is harder to be engaging and personal. i think that is why sometimes big meetings have presenters that sound like robots...because they are just talking out to the void....and not people.
Well… what do you have to hide? RTO would be another option.
If it’s only Zoom meetings then it’s reasonable. Otherwise what’s the point?
Where are you? Which country? If the UK then there's privacy laws and DP stuff. However I'd want to know which slacking knob heads ruined it for people by f*ckassing about in their pajamas tbh.
DP is about collecting, storing, processing data, not about whether you’re dressed.
It's only for Zoom calls. I think that's pretty normal in most office settings. It could be much worse. IMO it's rude to the presenter, Not to turn your camera on.
I never understand why people have an issue with putting cameras on. In a remote working team, it helps to build relationships as you know what your team mate looks like as well as sounds like. What you’re wearing doesn’t matter, my team have never dressed up for our team meetings, just whatever you’d be wearing at home anyway?
The short answer is yes it is reasonable. It is a video call not a phone call. I don’t understand why people make it such a big deal. It is a video video call. It is a job. Do what you are hired to do. And get over your emotions.
I don't see what the problem is. I just came from a company that mandated that everyone be on camera for every call for security reasons--that is, making sure that no unauthorized personnel were on the call. One person almost never turned her camera on at all, so management made her team lead. Whatever. Anyway, it's reasonable to expect everyone to show themselves as presentable from the waist up--it's not as if they ask you to stand up to salute the flag or something.
Seems totally reasonable. Showing your face at a professional meeting is appropriate. Not sure why you think this means business casual is required - at my company, we're all in various states of attire, down to t-shirts, for internal zooms.
I never turn my camera on despite my manager requesting that cameras be on during meetings. She’s never brought it up
Yes. It’s reasonable. You should be working, why can’t you be on camera?
Why do people hate putting their camera on? It's true, working from home lets you relax a bit more, avoid the hectic commute, and maybe even save bit more...but y'all went 5 days before covid...you can do 5 days after!
So don’t. It doesn’t matter what your wearing.
Sometimes I start work in my gym clothes and shower on my lunch break- when your remote this is a benefit.
They said cameras on - they never said how you had to dress or do makeup etc.
I could care less what someone has on or if they have makeup done etc. just do your job and wear what you want…. Of course naked would not be a good idea 🤣
Absolutely reasonable!
How many zoom calls do you have in a week or month? And how many of these zoom calls are when you are in the office vs remote?
I guess why not have cameras on during a normal work call during work hours right? Surely you're just sat at your desk (whether in office or at home) in normal work wear?
