I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. Thoughts on making the shift?

Do you regret going to law school?
If you didn’t have any student loans from it, would that change your answer?
What would tell someone entertaining the idea of law school, knowing what you know now?

Associates, do you want to be copied on emails to service providers/vendors (like CSC, CT, etc)? My thought is you get a billion emails everyday and don’t need more, but maybe I’m wrong?

I’ve been unsustainably swamped for months. Partner said they wanted to add an additional, more senior associate to the team on one massive case that went from “stayed” to “on fire” in the span of a month. I said that sounded awesome and the thought of someone else having to take on some responsibilities was such a relief… so why do I feel competitive and threatened now that the senior associate has actually been added? 🙄

I’ve worked 14+ days every day in November except yesterday when I only logged 6 hours of work (billable plus non-billable) (were required to upload our time every night now). How long should I wait after hanging up with our CFO just now who called me to tell me I’m behind and slacking to update my resume?

What does it mean when a partner gives associates, especially junior associates, origination credit? Practically, I don't think it makes a difference except maybe for bonuses, but I'm wondering if there's any deeper meaning than extending gratitude?

What was the hardest class year for you? I used to think first year was by far the hardest but now I’m a third year and I’m really feeling the pressure to step up. I work in finance and at this point I’m expected to handle closing documents, manage first years, draft some portions of major docs, etc. I feel like I’m always frazzled, constantly second guessing if I handled something correctly and anxious to answer calls from clients/OC. Senior attorneys at v100, how common is it for attorneys who start at small firms to lateral to biglaw? Have you worked with any? Conventional wisdom is always that if you don’t start there it’s hard to “trade up”. My coworker and I just did it to two different great v30 firms, and I’m wondering if it’s really that uncommon? Just out of curiosity. We’re not special counsel with special niche skills or anything, just associates. Pitfalls to beware? Positives?

What does venture counsel mean at WSGR? I just lateraled and am working with one - he seems to be doing all the junior work for the team so am confused?

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.
