I love money
if you can’t seem to leave, you care more about them than you’d like to admit…

Then why not take a government position or nonprofit legal clinic position where you have a lot more time to meet people and learn new things?
Coach
IDGAF about status, but I care very deeply, as if I raised it from birth, about money. The way you talked about it offended me, but I forgive you because I’m curious. Why, why did you join a big law firm if you didn’t care about money? There are many intellectually interesting and engaging things to do that don’t pay money and most say are satisfying, so what made you choose to start in big law or private practice in general?
Coach
Please this is so funny. I too am in love with money. It has brought me so much joy, trips, pretty hair, postmates, stocks I can’t wait to cash out and live off with no cares in the world except scheduling cosmetic surgeries.
I’ve been in other sectors of this profession (government and plaintiff side) and the mentorship you receive in big law is unrivaled. Also, I find the work intellectually interesting.

A4 - this is my experience as well.
Surely you care about money or else why did you go into biglaw instead of pursuing a different legal career path?
Such as??
Coach
No reason to be in big law if you don’t care about the money. Just by reading this bowl, it’s clear that those who stick around longest are attached to the money involved. I don’t think anyone actually cares about the status because there literally isn’t any status attached to it outside of the legal bubble.
Agreed. I could tell someone I made partner at Cravath and if they aren’t in the legal field they’d go “oh that’s lovely dear”

Love that P1 and P2 chime in nearly identically.
It sounds like you’re in a crappy environment. How long have you been working? Is lateraling an option? There are firms where things really are better. Or you could try a medium size firm or government job. You have options but it sounds like your current firm isn’t a good fit.
2.5 years, hate my current firm tbh but they (orally) promise me an office transfer in a year…
I’m not even in big law but what about the second job options? I’ve always been under the impression that a MASSIVE perk of big law was being able to get government jobs, prestigious boutique firms, etc
I see money as security for my family. It’s calming. The more I have the safer we are.
